Yoga Nidra literally means yogic sleep. It is an ancient technique where the practitioner enters the deep states of conscious relaxation. It is a systematic practice of moving awareness from our external world to the inner world. It brings us to a state of deep relaxation where our senses, intellect, and mind relax.
No experience is necessary and it is open for students of any age and experience, who wish to practise Yoga Nidra and relax deeply. Also recommended for strengthening your inner calm, relaxing the mind and revitalising your energy.
Growing evidence is showing Yoga Nidra to be a powerful tool to counter anxiety, stress, insomnia and even PTSD.
As the mind and body are led into a state of deepening rest, our brain waves and heart rate slow down, our blood pressure lowers and our central nervous systems shift from the sympathetic status of ‘fight or flight’ to the parasympathetic state of rest and digest.
As such, it is difficult to describe the feeling of peace that can so often be experienced during Yoga Nidra - as the body begins to release, the mind drifts in and out of consciousness, everyday worries are forgotten and we feel renewed and energised.
It is common to feel as though you are somewhere between being awake and falling asleep in a hypnogogic state.
There is no right or wrong way to experience the practice. Come and try it - we know you’ll love it!
“In Yoga Nidra, we restore our body, senses, and mind to their natural function and awaken a seventh sense that allows us to feel wholeness, tranquility and well-being” - Richard Miller
